Fiverr dispute resolution for buyers: revisions, cancellations and support
Short answer
Fiverr dispute resolution is the set of tools a buyer uses when an order goes wrong: rejecting a delivery to request a revision, the Resolution Center for order updates and cancellations (the seller has 48 hours to respond) and Customer Support once an order is complete. Act before the 3-day auto-completion, because that is when your options narrow.
Key takeaways
- Fiverr disputes run through three routes: a revision request on the order page, the Resolution Center and Customer Support.
- Resolution Center requests go to the seller, who has 48 hours to accept or decline; no answer means the request is accepted automatically.
- Once an order is completed, the Resolution Center is closed and only Customer Support can help.
- Orders auto-complete 3 days after delivery (14 days for shipped gigs), which is the real deadline for any dispute.
- Hourly orders have their own window: 7 days to dispute a weekly charge, 72 hours if the report auto-approves.
Most Fiverr disputes aren’t really disputes. They’re a delivery that’s 70% right, a seller who’s gone quiet for two days or a scope misunderstanding that one clear message fixes. Fiverr gives you a ladder of tools for these, and using the right rung at the right time is most of the skill.
The one thing to remember before anything else: an order auto-completes three days after delivery if you do nothing. Every option below gets harder after that.
How does dispute resolution work on Fiverr?
Dispute resolution on Fiverr works in three escalating steps: ask for a revision, use the Resolution Center, then contact Customer Support. The first two are between you and the seller. Only the third brings Fiverr in directly.
| Step | Use it when | How it works | Key rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Revision request | A delivery misses the brief | Click “No, I’m not ready yet” on the order page | Do it within 3 days of delivery |
| 2. Resolution Center: order update | Seller is quiet or progress is unclear | Formal request for a status reply | Seller has 48 hours; no reply means it’s accepted |
| 3. Resolution Center: cancel order | Scope has fallen apart or you want out | Request a mutual cancellation | Seller has 48 hours; no reply means it’s accepted |
| 4. Late-order cancel | Order is past due, no extension agreed | Cancel without the seller’s approval | Available 24 hours past the due date |
| 5. Customer Support | Order is completed, or talks have broken down | Contact us form in the Help Center, 24/7, English only | Resolution Center is closed for completed orders |
Fiverr notes that Resolution Center requests go straight to the other party: “Customer Support is not notified of these requests.” That’s by design. The platform wants buyers and sellers to settle things themselves first.
How do you ask for a revision the right way?
Ask for a revision by rejecting the delivery with a specific, numbered list of what doesn’t match the brief. On the order page, click “No, I’m not ready yet” and write your notes.
A good revision request quotes the brief back. “The brief asked for a horizontal logo and a stacked version; only the horizontal one is here” gets fixed. “I don’t love it” gets another guess. Check the package too: the number of revisions included is listed in the gig, and a request outside the original scope may need an extra or a custom offer.
Our guide to Fiverr revisions covers how revision counts work across packages.
When should you use the Resolution Center?
Use the Resolution Center when normal messages aren’t working and you need a formal answer. It has two request types for buyers: get an order update and cancel the order.
The 48-hour rule is what gives it teeth. If the seller doesn’t accept or decline within 48 hours, Fiverr says “the system will automatically accept it.” So a cancellation request to an unresponsive seller resolves in two days whether they engage or not.
Two practical limits:
- One request at a time. You can’t open a new request while another is active on the same order. Withdraw a pending extension or update request before asking to cancel.
- Message first. Fiverr recommends talking to the seller before opening a request. A short “I’m going to request a cancellation tomorrow unless we can agree X” often settles it and keeps the tone professional.
What if the order is late?
If the order is late and you didn’t agree to an extension, you can cancel without the seller’s approval 24 hours after the expected delivery date. That’s the strongest buyer protection on the Marketplace, and it means a stalling seller can’t sit on your money.
Whether you should cancel is a separate question. If the work is nearly done and the seller is communicating, a short extension may get you a better result than restarting with someone new. We cover that decision in what to do if a Fiverr order is late.
When do you need Customer Support?
You need Customer Support when an order is already completed or when you and the seller can’t agree. Fiverr’s cancellations article is plain: “If the order is in completed status, you cannot use the Resolution Center.”
Customer Support is “available 24/7” through the Help Center’s Contact us form, and all requests are handled in English. Give them what they need to decide quickly:
- The order number
- A short summary of what was ordered (quote the package and your brief)
- What was delivered and exactly how it differs
- What you’re asking for: revision, partial refund or cancellation
Keep everything in Fiverr’s inbox. Support can only weigh what it can see, and anything agreed on a call or in another app is hard to prove. Fiverr’s off-platform policy says it “can step in” when something goes wrong on the platform, which is another way of saying it can’t step in on what happened elsewhere.
How do disputes work on hourly orders?
Hourly orders use weekly reports instead of deliveries. You’re charged every Monday for the hours logged, and the money is “securely held in escrow until you approve the report.” You have 7 days (Monday to Monday) to open a dispute on a report you approve manually, or a 72-hour period if the report auto-approves.
Set a weekly hour limit in the custom offer so a disputed week can’t run away from you. More in our Fiverr hourly orders guide.
Where does the money go after a dispute?
Refunds land in your Fiverr Balance by default, covering the order amount and the service fee. You can click “Request a Refund” to send it to your original payment method, which takes up to 10 days and fails if the payment is more than 180 days old or the method is no longer active.
Fiverr Pro adds one more layer. Eligible Pro managed-services orders carry a “full money-back satisfaction guarantee” within 14 days of completion. If a bad result would cost you far more than the order, starting on Fiverr Pro Paid link buys that extra cover.
How do you avoid needing any of this?
Most disputes trace back to a thin brief or a mismatched seller. Write the brief as a checklist the delivery can be measured against, confirm scope in a message before paying and put the delivery date in your calendar. Our brief guide has a template.
