Fiverr fees for buyers in 2026: service fee, small-order fee and calculator

Short answer

Fiverr fees for buyers are a service charge added at checkout on top of the gig price: 5.5% of the order, plus a $3.50 small-order fee on orders under $200, according to Fiverr's payments article. The seller does not receive it. Each payment carries its own fee, so extras and tips are charged separately, hourly orders add a $5 initiation fee and tax is added where it applies.

Key takeaways

  • Fiverr charges buyers a 5.5% service fee on every payment, plus a $3.50 small-order fee on orders under $200 (Fiverr's payments article).
  • An older Fiverr help page still shows $3.00 on orders under $100; both versions give the same fee at $200 and above.
  • On a $50 order the fee is $6.25 (12.5% effective); on a $500 order it is $27.50 (5.5%).
  • Tips and extras are separate payments with their own fee; hourly orders add a $5 order initiation fee.
  • Cancelled orders refund the order amount and service fee to your Fiverr Balance by default; tax is not refundable by Fiverr.

The price on a Fiverr gig is not the price you pay. Fiverr adds a service fee at checkout, sometimes a small-order fee on top and in many countries tax. None of it is hidden, since the total is shown before you pay, but it is easy to budget $100 and end up at $109.

This page explains every fee a buyer can meet on Fiverr in 2026, with worked examples, a calculator and the edge cases (tips, extras, hourly orders, currencies, refunds). All figures come from Fiverr’s own help center, read on September 29, 2026. Seller-side fees are not covered here.

Estimate before tax. Fiverr's help pages currently show two versions of the small-order fee: $3.50 under $200 on the payments article (used here) and $3.00 under $100 on an older overview page. Both agree at $200 and above. Fiverr shows the exact fee before you pay.

How much does Fiverr charge buyers?

Fiverr charges buyers 5.5% of the purchase amount, plus a $3.50 fee on orders under $200. That is the wording on Fiverr’s “Paying for orders, extras or custom offers” help article, which is the page dedicated to buyer payments.

Fiverr’s help pages currently show two versions, though. The older “How Fiverr works for clients” overview still says 5.5% on all orders plus $3.00 on orders under $100. The two only differ for orders under $200, and the payments article is the more specific and more recent page, so we use it for the calculator and all examples here.

You will also see other numbers in third-party fee calculators and AI chat answers, such as $3.00 under $100 or a $2.50 fee under $50. Neither matches the payments article we checked, so trust the total Fiverr shows at checkout.

Either way, Fiverr’s payments article is clear on one thing: you can review and approve the fee before you pay.

What does the Fiverr fee look like on real orders?

The fee is heaviest in percentage terms on small orders, because of the fixed part. From $200 up it is a flat 5.5%.

Order priceFee (5.5% + $3.50 under $200)Total before taxEffective fee rateFee under the older $3.00 under $100 wording
$20$4.60$24.6023.0%$4.10
$50$6.25$56.2512.5%$5.75
$100$9.00$109.009.0%$5.50
$150$11.75$161.757.8%$8.25
$200$11.00$211.005.5%$11.00
$500$27.50$527.505.5%$27.50

$2,000$110.00$2,110.005.5%$110.00

Notice the quirk at the threshold: a $199 order costs $213.45 in total, while a $200 order costs $211.00. If you are just under $200, adding a small extra at checkout, in the same payment, can lower your total.

For context, here is what the fee adds to typical starting prices from our September 29, 2026 check of well-reviewed gigs on Fiverr:

Do extras, tips and custom offers have separate fees?

Yes. Fiverr’s payments article says each payment carries its own fee, so an extra added after you order, a tip and a new custom offer are each charged the service fee separately.

That matters for small add-ons. A $10 extra bought mid-order is its own payment under $200, so it carries 5.5% plus the $3.50 small-order fee: $4.05 in fees on a $10 purchase. Buying the right package up front, or asking for one custom offer that covers everything, avoids paying the fixed fee twice.

Tips follow the same logic. Fiverr’s tipping article says tips are charged with Fiverr’s standard service fee. You can tip after the order is complete, within 30 days, with a $5 minimum. On orders of $25 or more you can tip up to 100% of the order value; on smaller orders, up to $25.

What fees apply to Fiverr hourly orders?

Hourly orders add a $5 order initiation fee (tax not included), according to Fiverr’s hourly orders article for clients. Hourly work has an 8-hour minimum estimate, and you are charged every Monday for the hours the freelancer logged the previous week.

Fiverr does not publish whether the 5.5% service fee is also added to each weekly hourly charge. Check the first weekly invoice to confirm before you commit to a long hourly contract. The money for each week is held in escrow until you approve the hours report, and you have 7 days to dispute (72 hours if the report auto-approves). Our hourly orders guide covers the setup.

Fiverr also does not publish the fee treatment for gig subscriptions (recurring monthly orders), so read the checkout summary carefully on the first charge.

Does Fiverr charge tax on top of the fee?

Yes, in many countries. Fiverr adds tax at checkout where it is required to collect it, and shows it on your invoice. Its taxes article lists, among others:

Country or regionTax added at checkout
United StatesState sales tax where applicable
CanadaGST/HST and QST
Australia10% GST
New Zealand15% GST
India18% GST
Singapore9% GST
Norway25%
Turkey20%

Some countries, such as Mexico, South Africa and the UAE, apply the tax to Fiverr’s commission and service fee only. In several places a valid tax ID removes the charge, so add your business details and tax ID to your Fiverr billing info before the first order. Fiverr issues an invoice for every paid order, and taxes collected cannot be refunded by Fiverr. For the full list and invoices, see our Fiverr invoices and taxes guide.

Does paying in my local currency cost more?

It can. Fiverr’s local currency article says all prices are based on the original US dollar price, and local-currency amounts may change daily and include conversion fees. If your currency is not supported for payment, you are charged in US dollars.

The practical fix: compare the local-currency total with the USD total at checkout, and if you pay by card, check whether your card charges a foreign transaction fee. Fiverr accepts cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Fiverr Balance, plus some local methods by country; it does not accept crypto, and only one card can be used per transaction. Our how Fiverr payments work guide lists every method.

Do you get Fiverr fees back on a refund?

On a cancelled order, the order amount and the service fee go back to your Fiverr Balance by default, per Fiverr’s client FAQ. You can then spend it on another order.

If you want the money back on your card or PayPal instead, use “Request a Refund” in your balance. Fiverr’s refunds article says this takes up to 10 days and fails if the original payment is more than 180 days old or the payment method is no longer active. That article does not say whether the service fee is included in card refunds. Taxes are not refundable by Fiverr, and Fiverr Credits cannot be refunded and expire after three months.

The timing rules that decide whether you get a refund at all are in our refunds and cancellations guide.

How much does Fiverr Pro cost on top of the fees?

Nothing, unless you choose the paid plan. Pro gigs carry the same 5.5% fee plus $3.50 under $200. Pro Essential is free; Pro Advanced costs $129 a month plus tax and adds business features like deferred payments and a dedicated Business Success Manager. It cannot be paid with Fiverr credits, coupons or balance. See Fiverr Pro for details.

How to keep Fiverr fees down

The fee itself is not negotiable, but how often you trigger the fixed part is up to you.

  • Consolidate orders. One $120 order costs $10.10 in fees; two $60 orders cost $13.60.
  • Buy the right package first. Extras added later are separate payments with their own fee.
  • Cross $200 when it makes sense. From $200 the fixed $3.50 disappears.
  • Pay in USD if your card has no foreign transaction fee.
  • Add your tax ID where Fiverr accepts it, so tax is not charged at checkout.
  • Tip once, not twice. Each tip is a payment with its own fee.

Frequently asked questions

Does Fiverr take 20%?
From the seller, yes: Fiverr's freelancer guide says freelancers receive 80% of the client's cleared payment. That commission comes out of the gig price, is separate from the buyer service fee and does not change what you pay at checkout. None of your 5.5% or $3.50 goes to the seller.
Why is my Fiverr total different in my own currency?
Fiverr prices are based on the original US dollar price. If you view prices in a local currency, Fiverr's currency article says the displayed amount can change daily and may include conversion fees. Paying in USD with a card that has no foreign transaction fee often works out cheapest.
Is it cheaper to buy two small gigs or one bigger package?
Usually one bigger package. Each order under $200 carries the $3.50 small-order fee, so two $60 orders cost $13.60 in fees while one $120 order costs $10.10. Ask the seller for a custom offer that covers everything.
Do I pay a service fee on Fiverr Pro orders?
Yes, the same 5.5% plus $3.50 under $200. The optional Pro Advanced plan is a separate $129 a month subscription and is not required to order Pro gigs.
Can I get the service fee back if I cancel?
When an order is cancelled, Fiverr's client FAQ says the original order amount and the service fee appear in your Fiverr Balance. Fiverr's refunds article does not say whether the fee is included when you ask for the money back to your card instead, so check the amount before requesting it.
