Fiverr refunds and cancellations: how buyers get their money back

Short answer

A Fiverr refund is the return of an order payment after a cancellation, credited to the buyer's Fiverr Balance by default. Buyers request cancellations in the Resolution Center, and the seller has 48 hours to respond. Late orders can be canceled without approval 24 hours past the due date. Card refunds take up to 10 days and completed orders need Customer Support.

Key takeaways

  • Cancellations start in the Resolution Center, and the seller has 48 hours to accept or decline.
  • If an order is more than 24 hours past its due date with no agreed extension, you can cancel without the seller's approval.
  • Refunds go to your Fiverr Balance by default; a refund to your card or PayPal can take up to 10 days and fails if the payment is more than 180 days old.
  • Once an order is completed, the Resolution Center is closed and you have to contact Customer Support.
  • Fiverr Pro's money-back satisfaction guarantee applies to eligible orders within 14 days of completion.

Nobody places a Fiverr order expecting to cancel it. But knowing how cancellations work before you pay changes how you act during the order, especially around the three-day review window that catches so many first-time buyers.

This guide covers who can cancel, the deadlines that matter, where refunds go and what changes once an order is marked complete.

How do Fiverr cancellations work?

A Fiverr cancellation is a request, sent through the Resolution Center, to end an active order and refund the payment. Fiverr’s help center says the seller has 48 hours to accept or decline the request.

Fiverr also notes that Resolution Center requests go to the other party, not to Customer Support. That makes the Resolution Center a structured negotiation with the seller, not an appeal to Fiverr.

Before you open one, talk to the seller in the order chat. Many problems are misunderstandings that a revision fixes faster than a cancellation. See Fiverr revisions explained.

When can I cancel a Fiverr order without the seller’s approval?

You can cancel without approval when the order is more than 24 hours past its expected delivery date and no extension was agreed. Fiverr’s cancellations article states this rule directly.

SituationCan you cancel alone? What to do
Order more than 24 hours late, no extension agreedYesCancel from the order page
Order late, but you accepted an extensionNoWait for the new date or request mutual cancellation
Order on time, but you changed your mindNoRequest mutual cancellation; the seller may decline
Delivery misses the briefNoRequest a revision first, then a cancellation if needed
Requirements never submittedAutomaticFiverr cancels the order after 14 days

The 14-day requirements rule cuts both ways. If you forget to submit, the order cancels on its own. See what to do if a Fiverr order is late for the late-delivery playbook.

Where does my Fiverr refund go?

Your refund goes to your Fiverr Balance by default. Fiverr’s refunds article says canceled funds are credited there, and its client FAQ says the original order amount and service fee appear in your balance for future orders.

If you do not plan to order again soon, request a refund to your original payment method:

Refund typeHowTiming and limits
Fiverr BalanceAutomatic on cancellationOrder amount and service fee credited
Original payment method“Request a Refund” buttonUp to 10 days; fails if payment is older than 180 days or the method is inactive
Fiverr CreditsNot refundableCredits expire after 3 months
TaxesNot refunded by FiverrShown on your invoice

Fiverr’s refunds article does not say whether the service fee also returns when you move the money to your card, so check the amount shown before you confirm.

Can a seller give a partial refund?

Yes, but only the seller can offer one and only on an active order. Fiverr’s partial refunds article sets the rules: the order must be over $50 and not yet completed, the minimum refund is $5 and the maximum is 60% of the original order price, so a $200 order allows up to $120 back. An accepted partial refund goes to your original payment method, not your Fiverr Balance.

A partial refund suits a smaller problem than a full cancellation: part of the scope dropped, a delay or a delivery that is usable but short of the brief. If you want one, ask the seller in the order chat and let them send it through the Resolution Center.

What happens after an order is completed?

After completion, the Resolution Center is no longer available and you have to contact Customer Support. Fiverr’s cancellations article says that if the order is in completed status, you cannot use the Resolution Center.

Orders complete when you accept the delivery or automatically three days after delivery if you take no action (14 days for shipped gigs). That three-day window is the most important deadline in this guide. If you are traveling or busy, do not schedule a delivery date you cannot review.

Customer Support is available 24/7 through the Help Center’s “Contact us” option, and Fiverr says requests are handled in English.

How do I request a cancellation the right way?

Request it with a clear reason tied to the brief or the deadline, after giving the seller a chance to fix things. A request that shows you tried to resolve the problem is easier for everyone to accept.

A simple sequence:

  1. Message the seller in the order chat. State the problem, cite the brief line and ask for a fix or a date.
  2. Request a revision with “No, I’m not ready yet” if a delivery exists.
  3. Open a Resolution Center request if the fix does not come. The seller has 48 hours to respond.
  4. Contact Customer Support if the seller does not cooperate or the order is already completed.

Keep every agreement in writing on Fiverr. Fiverr’s off-platform policy says it can step in when something goes wrong on the platform. Promises made on WhatsApp or email do not help you. For escalations, see Fiverr dispute resolution.

Does Fiverr Pro offer a money-back guarantee?

Yes, for eligible orders. Fiverr’s cancellations article describes a full money-back satisfaction guarantee on eligible orders, requested within 14 days of order completion. That wording is tied to Fiverr Pro, and we found no equivalent guarantee for standard marketplace orders in Fiverr’s help center. Fiverr’s Pro satisfaction guarantee article adds the details: it covers services from vetted Pro freelancers and Pro project management but not hourly orders, the refund is capped at the order amount and it is credited to your Fiverr Pro Balance for future orders, not your card.

That window is one of the practical reasons to use Fiverr Pro for larger, business-critical orders. Pro freelancers are also vetted before acceptance. See the Fiverr Pro guide for eligibility and plans.

How do hourly orders handle refunds?

Hourly orders use a weekly report and dispute cycle instead of a delivery. Fiverr’s help center says funds are held in escrow until you approve the report, and you have 7 days (Monday to Monday) to open a dispute, or 72 hours if you use auto approval.

Review each weekly report promptly, just as you would a delivery. See Fiverr hourly orders.

How can I avoid needing a refund in the first place?

Most refund situations trace back to a thin brief, the wrong package or a missed review window. Three habits prevent most of them:

  • Send a pre-order message and get the scope confirmed in writing. See how to message a seller before ordering.
  • Pick the tier that includes your formats and revisions on day one.
  • Put the delivery date in your calendar and review within three days.

A small paid test order, such as one page or one article, also limits what is at stake while you judge a new seller.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund on Fiverr if I don't like the work?
Start by asking for a revision with specific, brief-based changes. If the seller cannot fix it, request a mutual cancellation in the Resolution Center while the order is still active. Disliking a delivery that matches the brief is harder to resolve than a delivery that misses it.
Does Fiverr refund the service fee?
When an order is canceled, Fiverr's client FAQ says the original order amount and service fee appear in your Fiverr Balance. The refunds article does not say whether the fee also comes back when you move the refund to your card, so check the amount shown before you request it.
Do I get my money back if I cancel a Fiverr order?
Yes, a canceled order is refunded in full, order amount plus service fee, to your Fiverr Balance by default. You can then request the money back to your original card or PayPal, which takes up to 10 days and only works if you paid within the last 180 days. Tax charged at checkout is not refundable by Fiverr.
How long does a Fiverr refund take?
A refund to Fiverr Balance is credited on cancellation. A refund to your original payment method can take up to 10 days after you request it, according to Fiverr's refunds article.
What if the order auto-completed before I could review it?
Orders complete automatically three days after delivery if no action is taken. After that the Resolution Center is unavailable, so contact Customer Support through the Help Center, which is available 24/7 in English.
