Hiring an explainer video animator on Fiverr in 2026: prices, what to look for and what to send

Short answer

An explainer video animator on Fiverr is a freelancer who turns a short script into a 2D or motion-graphics video, usually 60 to 120 seconds long. On September 29, 2026 the median starting price across 35 well-reviewed gigs was $100, with Fiverr Pro gigs at a $362.50 median. Finished projects typically cost $150 to $2,500. Key takeaways

  • Across 35 well-reviewed explainer video gigs checked on September 29, 2026, the median starting price was $100 and the middle half ran from $50 to $250.
  • 10 of the 35 gigs were Fiverr Pro, with a median starting price of $362.50, more than three times the overall median.
  • The median starting package delivered in 5 days, the slowest of any video category we track, because animation is built frame by frame.
  • Finished explainer projects typically run $150 to $2,500, and custom illustration moves the price more than video length.
  • A 60-second explainer needs a script of roughly 130 to 150 words, so approve the script and storyboard before any animation starts.

An explainer video is one of the few Fiverr purchases where two gigs with the same headline can deliver completely different products. One seller drops your text into a pre-built template. Another draws characters for your brand from scratch. Both call it a “custom explainer video”, and this guide shows you how to tell them apart before you pay.

How much does an explainer video cost on Fiverr?

Across the 35 well-reviewed gigs (4.7 stars or better, 20+ reviews) on the first page of Fiverr’s animated explainers category on September 29, 2026, the median starting price was $100 and the middle half ran from $50 to $250. The cheapest started at $5 and the most expensive at $1,000. These are starting prices of each gig’s cheapest package, not the cost of a finished video.

That $100 usually buys a short piece: 15 to 30 seconds of template animation, your script as supplied, stock music and one revision. A real 60 to 90 second explainer for a homepage lands higher, which is why the category’s typical range runs from $150 to $2,500.

TierTypical priceWhat it usually includes
Basic$150 to $40030 to 60 seconds, template characters and scenes, your script, stock music, 1 revision, 1080p MP4
Standard$400 to $1,20060 to 90 seconds, custom-styled illustration, script polish, storyboard, voice over, 2 revisions
Premium$1,200 to $2,50090 to 120 seconds, fully custom characters, sound design, subtitles, extra aspect ratios, project files

Three things push a gig up the range faster than length. Custom illustration is the biggest, because every scene has to be drawn before it can move. Character animation (a person walking, talking or using a phone) is slow compared with icons sliding in. And a professional voice over, if it is not bundled, adds its own cost; the voice over guide covers those prices.

Add Fiverr’s service fee: 5.5% of the order, plus $3.50 on orders under $200. On a $1,000 video that is $55. The Fiverr fees page has worked examples.

Marketplace or Fiverr Pro for explainer videos?

Use Fiverr Pro when the video is going on your homepage or into a paid campaign and your budget is in the four figures. Pro made up 10 of the 35 gigs in our sample, a higher share than most video categories, and Pro starting prices sat at a $362.50 median. Pro freelancers are evaluated by Fiverr’s industry experts before acceptance, and Fiverr’s help center describes a money-back satisfaction guarantee on eligible Pro orders, claimed within 14 days of completion.

The marketplace is fine for internal training clips, a product demo for a pitch or a first test of the format. At that budget a Top Rated seller (57% of our sample) with videos from your industry in the portfolio is often the better value.

Browse Fiverr Pro explainer video animators if your budget is above roughly $1,000.

Template or custom: how do you tell before ordering?

Watch five or six portfolio videos in a row. If the same characters, hand gestures or city skyline keep appearing with different logos, the seller works from templates. That is fine, but it should be priced like template work.

Custom sellers usually show style frames or storyboards next to the finished video. They also ask questions before quoting: who the audience is, what the viewer should do next, whether you have brand guidelines. A seller who quotes without asking anything is quoting a template.

If the video will sit beside product screenshots, ask whether they animate real UI captures. That is a separate skill from character animation and not every animator offers it.

How do you read an explainer video gig before ordering?

Every explainer package should tell you six things. If one is missing, ask before ordering.

  • Length in seconds, not “short” or “long”. Extra seconds are often sold as extras.
  • Script: supplied by you, polished by them or written from scratch.
  • Storyboard step: whether you approve still frames before animation starts. This is the most useful checkpoint in the whole order.
  • Voice over: included, an extra or not offered. Check accents and languages.
  • Revisions: how many, and whether they cover the storyboard, the animation or both. See how Fiverr revisions work.
  • Files: MP4 resolution (1080p or 4K), aspect ratios (16:9, 9:16, 1:1), an SRT subtitle file and whether the After Effects or Animate project file is included.

For orders above a few hundred dollars, ask for a custom offer split into milestones: script, storyboard, animation. The guide to Fiverr milestone orders explains how that works. With a 5-day median on starting packages, a milestone project of 90 seconds realistically takes two to four weeks.

What should you put in an explainer video brief?

Paste this into your first message. It gives any animator enough to quote accurately.

  • Product in one sentence, and who it is for
  • The one problem the viewer has before watching
  • The one action they should take after (sign up, book a call, buy)
  • Where it will play: homepage, YouTube, paid social, sales deck, trade show screen
  • Target length in seconds and the aspect ratios you need
  • Script: attached draft, or “please write from these notes”
  • Two or three explainer videos you like, with what you like about each
  • Brand assets: logo (SVG or PNG), hex colors, fonts, product screenshots
  • Voice: gender, accent, tone and language, or “I will supply the voice over”
  • Music mood and anything to avoid
  • Deadline, and whether you need a 15-second cut-down for ads

If you want no AI-generated voices or visuals, say so plainly. Fiverr’s AI guidelines put the onus on clients to state that requirement.

What are the red flags on explainer video gigs?

  • Every portfolio video uses the same characters, but the gig promises “fully custom” work.
  • No storyboard step on a package over $500.
  • One or two days to deliver a 90-second custom video. Drawing and animating that much takes longer.
  • Vague answers about music licensing. A video muted by a copyright claim on YouTube is an expensive mistake.
  • Requests to move to email or a messaging app before an order exists. Fiverr only permits third-party communication after an order is placed, and off-platform deals lose its protection.
  • A seller who will not say whether the voice over is human or synthetic.

Where do you find a good explainer video animator on Fiverr?

The shortlist on this page lists well-reviewed explainer gigs from the same first-page check, with starting price and delivery time stamped on the date we read them. Pick three, send each the brief above and compare the replies, not just the quotes. The seller who asks about your audience and your call to action is usually the one whose video converts.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a Fiverr explainer video be?
For a homepage or product page, 60 to 90 seconds covers the problem, the product and one call to action. Anything past two minutes usually means the script is trying to do too much. Short 15 to 30 second cut-downs are often sold as extras and are worth buying if you plan to run ads.
Should I write the script myself or pay the animator to write it?
If you can explain the product in plain words, write a rough draft and let the seller tighten it. Paid scriptwriting makes sense when you are too close to the product to explain it simply. Either way, approve the script in writing before the storyboard starts.
Do I get the After Effects project file?
Only if the package lists source files. Most starting and mid-tier packages deliver an MP4 only. If you expect to update prices, logos or screens later, buy the project file now, because asking for it after delivery often costs more.
Why do some explainer gigs start at $5 and others at $1,000?
The low end is usually a few seconds of template animation or a logo sting sold as a sample. The high end is a fully custom package with illustration, voice over and sound design. Compare price per finished second and the style, not the starting number.
Can I use the video in paid ads?
Usually yes, but confirm that the music track and any stock characters are licensed for commercial use. Ask the seller to state it in the order chat before delivery so you have it in writing.
