Hiring a Shopify developer on Fiverr in 2026: prices, what to look for and what to send

Shopify work on Fiverr covers everything from “install this theme and add my logo” to a full migration off WooCommerce with custom Liquid sections. The listing prices look similar at the top of the page, but the jobs behind them are wildly different. This guide shows what the checked numbers say, what each price tier usually buys and how to brief a developer so the first delivery is close.

How much does a Shopify developer cost on Fiverr?

Across the 43 well-reviewed gigs on the first page of Fiverr’s Shopify category on September 29, 2026, the median starting price was $120 and the middle half ran from $90 to $150. The cheapest starting package in the sample was $80 and the most expensive was $2,000. We only counted gigs with 4.7 stars or more and at least 20 reviews.

These are starting prices of the cheapest package, not project totals. On Shopify gigs the starting package is usually a theme install with light setup. The price climbs with product count, the number of custom sections, migrations and anything that touches checkout or apps.

Here is how packages across the category are usually structured. The outer range comes from our category-level estimate of $100 to $2,500 and is general guidance, not measured data.

Fiverr adds its service fee at checkout: 5.5% of the order plus $3.50 on orders under $200 (Fiverr’s payments article; an older help page still says $3.00 under $100). On the $120 median that is $10.10, so you pay $130.10. The Fiverr fees guide has more worked examples.

Marketplace or Fiverr Pro for Shopify development?

For a store that already makes money, Fiverr Pro is the safer first order. Pro sellers are vetted by Fiverr before acceptance and 15 of the 43 gigs in our sample carried the Pro badge, starting at a $195 median. That is about $75 more than the marketplace median, which is small next to one lost day of sales from a broken checkout.

The marketplace is fine for a new store with no traffic yet, a theme install or a small fix like a broken filter. 44% of the gigs we checked were from Top Rated sellers, so there is no shortage of experienced people outside Pro either.

Pro also brings a money-back guarantee on eligible managed-service orders, claimable within 14 days of completion, according to Fiverr’s cancellations article. Read the Fiverr Pro guide before assuming a given gig qualifies. If you want Pro, start at Fiverr Pro Paid link and filter for Shopify.

How to read a Shopify gig before ordering

The package table tells you more than the gig title. Check these five things before you pay:

• Theme scope. Does the package include a theme install only, or customization? “Store setup” and “custom store design” are not the same job.
• Product count. Look for the number of products uploaded. If you have a CSV of 150 SKUs, a 10-product package will turn into a custom offer anyway.
• Pages and sections. Count the pages and homepage sections included. Extra pages are a common add-on.
• Apps. Paid apps are your cost, not the developer’s. Check which apps they will configure and whether they expect you to install them first.
• Revisions and delivery. The typical starting package delivers in 4 days. Revisions usually cover visual tweaks, not new features.

Also look at the portfolio for live store URLs, not only mockups. A screenshot of a pretty homepage says nothing about how the product page or cart behaves on a phone.

What to put in your Shopify brief

Send this before ordering, in a message, so the seller can quote accurately. Our brief guide explains the thinking behind it.

• Store URL (or “new store”) and your current Shopify plan
• Theme name, and whether you already bought it
• What you sell, how many products and variants, and whether a product CSV is ready
• Three Shopify stores you like and one thing you like about each
• Pages needed: home, collections, product, about, contact, FAQ, policies
• Apps you already use or want (reviews, email capture, subscriptions, upsells)
• Markets, currencies and languages you sell in
• What must not change (checkout settings, existing URLs, live apps)
• Deadline and whether the work should happen on a duplicated, unpublished theme
• How you will give access: a collaborator request code, with only the permissions needed

On access: Shopify’s collaborator accounts let a Shopify Partner request access with a code you provide, and you can limit their role. Collaborators do not count against your staff limit. Fiverr’s own rules say third-party tools are fine once an order is placed, so do not hand out access before that.

Red flags when hiring a Shopify developer

• Asks for your owner password. A professional sends a collaborator request. Fiverr also says it will never ask for your login or payment details.
• Wants to move the conversation off Fiverr before ordering. Fiverr only allows third-party tools after an order exists, and off-platform work is outside its protection.
• “Full custom store” at the basic price. At an $80 to $150 start, expect a theme install. If the gig promises a custom build for that, read the package table twice.
• Portfolio with no live links. Mockups can be bought. Live stores cannot be faked as easily.
• Edits directly on the live theme. Ask for a duplicate theme first. Anyone who refuses is gambling with your sales.
• Vague on apps. If they plan to install five paid apps you did not ask for, your monthly bill grows after they leave.
