Hiring a mobile app developer on Fiverr in 2026: prices, what to look for and what to send

Short answer

A mobile app developer on Fiverr is a freelancer or small studio that builds, fixes or publishes iOS and Android apps for a package or custom-offer price. On September 29, 2026 well-reviewed gigs started at a $120 median, but that buys a fix or a small feature, not an app. Full apps usually run $300 to $5,000 or more, paid in milestones.

App development is the category where Fiverr’s listing prices mislead first-time buyers the most. Every gig shows a friendly starting price, and none of them is the price of the app you have in your head. The trick is to use the starting package for what it is, a test of the developer, and to buy the real build as a milestone project.

How much does a mobile app developer cost on Fiverr?

Across the 37 well-reviewed gigs (4.7 stars or better, 20+ reviews) on the first page of Fiverr’s mobile app services category on September 29, 2026, the median starting price was $120 and the middle half ran from $100 to $372.50. Nothing in the sample started below $100, and the most expensive starting package was $800. These are starting prices of the cheapest package, not project totals.

Middle 50%$100 to $372.50

Pro gigs in sample16 of 37 (Pro median start $200)

At the starting price you typically get one narrow job: fix a crash, add a screen, update an SDK or build and submit an app you already have to the App Store and Google Play. Price climbs with the number of screens, user accounts, a backend and database, payments, push notifications, admin panels and third-party APIs.

Here is how packages are usually structured. The outer range comes from our category-level estimate of $300 to $5,000 and is general guidance, not measured data; complex apps go well past it.

TierTypical priceWhat it usually includes
Basic$300 to $800Template or reskinned app, a few screens, no custom backend, one platform or cross-platform build
Standard$800 to $2,500Custom UI for 5-10 screens, login, Firebase or similar backend, both stores, store submission
Premium$2,500 to $5,000+Custom backend and admin panel, payments or subscriptions, push notifications, API integrations, post-launch fixes

On the $120 median, Fiverr’s service fee (5.5% plus $3.50 under $200, per its payments article) is $10.10, so you pay $130.10. On a $2,000 milestone project the fee is $110. The fees guide has more worked examples.

Marketplace or Fiverr Pro for app development?

For a new app you will build a business on, Fiverr Pro is the better starting point. Almost half the sample (16 of 37 gigs) carried the Pro badge, and the Pro median start was $200, only $80 above the overall median. Pro sellers are vetted by Fiverr before acceptance, and eligible Pro orders carry a money-back guarantee you can claim within 14 days of completion, per Fiverr’s cancellations article.

The marketplace works well for bounded jobs: a bug fix, a library upgrade, a store resubmission after a rejection. 46% of the gigs we checked were Top Rated, and a well-scoped fix is a low-risk way to test someone before handing them the whole app. When you are ready to compare vetted studios, start at Fiverr Pro and filter for mobile apps.

How do you read a mobile app gig before ordering?

Look for evidence of shipped apps and clear scope. Check these before you message anyone.

  • Live store links. Ask for App Store or Google Play links to apps the seller built, not only Dribbble-style screens.
  • Framework. Flutter, React Native, Swift, Kotlin. The gig should say which, and why it suits your app.
  • Screens and features. Packages often count screens. Count yours before comparing prices.
  • Backend. Is a database, user login or admin panel included, or does the package assume you already have an API?
  • Source code. “Source code” should be listed as a deliverable, delivered to a repository you own.
  • Store submission. Some packages include publishing to both stores; some charge extra per platform.
  • Delivery. The median starting package delivers in 7 days. A real app build is weeks, which is why milestone orders exist.

About a third of the gigs (32%) offered a subscription, usually for maintenance: OS updates, SDK changes and crash fixes after launch. Apps need that more than websites do, so it is worth pricing in.

What should you put in a mobile app brief?

Send this before ordering so you get a real custom offer, not a guess. Our brief guide covers the general principles.

  • What the app does, in two sentences, and who uses it
  • Platforms: iPhone, Android or both; phone only or tablet too
  • Every screen you can list, even as rough sketches or a Figma link
  • User accounts: email login, social login, none
  • Data: what is stored, where, and whether an admin panel is needed
  • Payments or subscriptions, and through which provider
  • Integrations: maps, calendar, CRM, AI API, analytics
  • Existing assets: designs, API docs, an old codebase
  • Store accounts: confirm you will create the Apple and Google developer accounts and invite the developer
  • Budget range and deadline, split into milestones you would accept

On accounts: the Apple Developer Program costs $99 a year and a Google Play developer account has a $25 one-time registration fee. Pay both yourself. It is a small cost for owning your app listing outright.

What are the red flags when hiring a mobile app developer?

App projects fail slowly, so the warning signs come early. Watch for these.

  • A full “Uber clone” or “Instagram clone” for a few hundred dollars. That is a reskinned template, often with code you cannot maintain.
  • No mention of source code or a repository. If the code lives only on their machine, the app is not really yours.
  • Publishing under the developer’s store account. Insist on your own accounts.
  • One big upfront payment for a multi-week build. Ask for milestones.
  • Moving to WhatsApp or Telegram before ordering. Fiverr only allows third-party tools after an order is placed, and off-platform deals lose Fiverr’s protection.
  • No questions about your backend or data. A developer who quotes without asking where the data lives has not thought about your app yet.

Where do you find a good app developer on Fiverr?

Start with the shortlist on this page. It lists live app development gigs that passed our rating and review filters, with prices and delivery stamped on the day we checked. Pick two or three, send the brief and pay for a small first task before committing to the full build.

If your “app” is really a web tool or an internal automation, the custom software guide may fit better. If it is mainly a chat assistant, see the AI chatbot guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a full app built on Fiverr for $120?
No. A $120 starting package is usually a bug fix, a single screen, a build and store submission or a reskin of an existing template. A working app with login, a database and payments is a custom offer, usually in the thousands.
Flutter, React Native or native?
For most small-business apps that need to run on iPhone and Android, a cross-platform framework like Flutter or React Native means one codebase and one developer. Native Swift and Kotlin make sense for heavy device features or performance. Ask the seller why they recommend one for your app.
Who should own the App Store and Google Play accounts?
You should. Create the accounts yourself and invite the developer with a limited role. If the developer publishes under their own account, moving the app later is slow and depends on their cooperation.
What if Apple rejects the app?
Store rejections are common on first submission. Agree in writing, before ordering, that fixing review rejections for the delivered scope is included in the price.
Should I pay for an app in one order?
Not for anything over a few hundred dollars. Ask for a custom offer split into milestones, such as designs, core features, backend and store release, so you pay as working pieces arrive.
