AI chatbots are the newest category in this guide and the one where the demo and the real thing differ most. Any bot looks smart when the seller asks it the questions. Yours has to handle the customer who types “where is my stuff” at 2 a.m. and the one asking about a product you discontinued last year.

How much does an AI chatbot cost on Fiverr?

Across the 18 well-reviewed gigs (4.7 stars or better, 20+ reviews) on the first page of Fiverr’s AI chatbot development category on September 29, 2026, the median starting price was $95 and the middle half ran from $30 to $262.50. Starting packages ranged from $20 to $500. These are the prices of each gig’s cheapest package, not what a tested, connected chatbot usually costs.

At $30 to $95 you typically get a bot on a no-code builder, trained on a few pages or a PDF, with a website widget. The price climbs with the number of channels (website, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram), actions the bot can take, integrations with your CRM or booking tool, human handoff, multiple languages and structured testing.

Remember the running costs. Model providers bill by usage: OpenAI’s API pricing page, for example, lists prices per 1 million tokens. Most chatbot platforms add their own monthly plan. How do you read an AI chatbot gig before ordering?

Look for live bots you can talk to and a clear list of what the bot connects to. These are the checks that separate a demo from a deliverable.

• Platform. The gig should name it: a no-code builder, a custom build on an AI API or a custom GPT. Each has different running costs and lock-in.
• Channels. Website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Slack. Count only the ones listed in the package.
• Knowledge source. How many pages, documents or FAQ entries are included, and how you update them later.
• Actions. “Books appointments” or “captures leads” should name the tool it writes to.
• Accounts. Whose API key and platform account will it run on? It should be yours.
• Testing. Ask whether they deliver a test log. Few gigs list it, but good sellers will agree.
• Delivery. The median starting package delivers in 2 days. A bot with integrations and testing takes longer.

Also check whether the gig offers a subscription; 28% did. Bots need tuning after launch as real questions arrive, so a month of adjustments can be worth more than extra features.

What should you put in an AI chatbot brief?

• The bot’s job in one sentence: answer support questions, qualify leads, book calls
• Channels, in order of priority
• Content it should answer from: site URLs, help docs, PDFs, price lists
• Topics it must refuse or hand to a human (refunds, medical, legal, pricing exceptions)
• The action it should take, and the tool it writes to (CRM, calendar, spreadsheet)
• Tone: two or three example replies you like
• Languages
• Expected volume: conversations per month
• Accounts: confirm you will create the AI API and platform accounts and invite the developer
• Acceptance: 20-30 real customer questions you will test before approving

That last list is the most valuable thing you can send. Pull the questions from your inbox, not from your imagination.

What are the red flags when hiring an AI chatbot developer?

The risk here is a bot that answers confidently and wrongly under your brand name. Screen for that.

• “Trained on ChatGPT, knows everything.” You want a bot that answers from your content and says so when it does not know.
• Runs on the seller’s own API key. You lose control of costs and data, and the bot stops when the relationship does.
• No handoff to a human. Every customer bot needs an exit.
• Demo only, no live example. Ask for a link to a bot running on a real client site.
• Collecting your customer data outside Fiverr before an order. Fiverr allows third-party tools only after an order is placed, and warns that off-platform deals are not protected.
• Unrealistic claims about replacing your support team. Good sellers talk about deflecting common questions, not eliminating staff.
